Al Fahidi before eight is a different city. The lanes are still cool, the wind towers do the work they were built for, and you can hear an abra engine without a tour group narrating it.
Start on the Creek, not in a mall. Cross for AED 1. Walk the side you did not expect to like. The souq is for later; the light is for now.
Concrete stop: Coffee Museum or any café facing the water. Sit until the sun climbs. If you are still walking at eleven, you will decide heritage is “a bit much.” It is not. You were late.
The textile souq and the spice souq reward ten minutes each, not two hours. Buy something small you will actually use — cardamom, a wooden spoon, nothing that needs a second suitcase.
Have breakfast near the water. Then let Downtown have the afternoon. Old Dubai is not a replacement for the skyline. It is the hour that makes the skyline make sense.
If you only do one thing: abra there, abra back, one lane photographed in shade. That is enough for a first visit. The rest can wait for a cooler month.
Bring water anyway. Even at seven, the walk back to the car can lie to you about how hot it already is.
