About the event
- A love letter to Black joy, identity and self-expression told through the power of movement, music and community.
Choreographer and director Camille A. Brown returns with I AM, a dynamic celebration of African American culture and its diasporic roots. Through West African, Modern, Jazz, Tap, Social, Street and Hip-Hop dance, the work explores the many ways people express who they are, where they come from and how they connect with one another.
Set between the playground, the street, da club، and the church, I AM transforms everyday moments into powerful expressions of humanity. The dancers become storytellers, bringing energy, memory and emotion to the stage through movement that speaks beyond words.
Part music concert, part dance experience, I AM places its extraordinary performers at the centre. The soundtrack blends original compositions with reimagined R&B classics from artists including Lil’ Kim, Busta Rhymes, Method Man and Mary J. Blige, transformed through violin, drums and piano into a fresh celebration of sound and culture.
Inspired by traditions including HBCU drumlines, majorettes, R&B groups and iconic music videos, the performance honours the creativity, joy and influence of Black artistic expression.
And this is a performance you don’t just watch.Through the tradition of call and response, audiences are invited to stomp, snap, sing along and become part of the conversation between dancers, musicians and the room around them.
I AM celebrates individuality, connection and the power of showing up fully as yourself. Come experience a performance where movement becomes memory, music becomes connection, and everyone has a part to play.
